This book is highly informative for how to make great tasting salads and dressings – with an almost endless variety of flavor-texture combinations. I first learned about ‘super salads’ from Gabrielle more than 5 years and although I had been a salad fan all of my fairly long life (so far), this new way of preparing salads was totally amazing to my tastebuds – initially I couldn’t quite believe the difference that it made.
I have been an advocate ever since – I was so pleased when she published a book on this topic. I would also recommend Gabrielle’s Green Smoothie Magic as a great partner to this book.
Are you tired of the same tossed salad (iceberg lettuce, a couple tomato wedges, a slice or two of cucumber, a few shredded carrots)? In this book, Gabriella Raiz proves that salads need not be boring nor repetitious.
Do you like guacamole? She offers seven recipes. There are also seven salsa recipes. If your zucchini is taking over the garden, there is a recipe using just spiral grated zucchini and dressing, with several dressing options. There are more than salad dressing recipes and eight hummus ones.
Her recipes work for people who have many different food preferences, from vegans to meat and potato fans to people with allergies to specific foods. The book provides ideas to satisfy all. If you see an interesting vegetable at the market and buy it because it is on sale but don’t know what to do with it, this will give you feasible ideas.
It also includes tips about kitchen utensils, keeping salads from getting soggy, preparing the ingredients, garnishes, portion sizes, etc. She tells how grating frozen ginger is better than dried ginger powder.
The book includes an interesting disclaimer: “This book makes no warranties, guarantees, or promises to heal any illness nor does it promise that it will keep you young, make you look better, feel better, cure diseases, prevent diseases or stop the symptoms of signs of conditions or illnesses. “ She recommend resolving those issues with people trained to deal with them.
The recipes and suggestions are diverse and easy to follow. I’ve been cooking for about sixty years and found lots of interesting, new ideas in this book.
