This book is a simple guide to diet change. Some will have you believe that ADHD is a disease and only meds can help. The bottom line is the fact that DHA in the brain is critical for optimal brain function. If you do not want to change you or your family’s diet, do not purchase this book.
The author, Robert DeMaria, points out that trans fat interrupts the creation of DHA, For example, if you or your child eat peanut butter with trans fat, you may have long term challenges. Of course, some have a problem with a natural approach,
DeMaria, says, “Let me tell if meds were the answer you would not see so many looking for natural options.” He recommends alternative treatment, such as chiropractics. According to DeMaria, the body works by nervous system function, and when there is interuption in this communication like a USB port being disconnected the body will not function optimally. Because of this, DeMaria, includes a chapter on spinal function.
The approach is simple; create the platform to create DHA by feeding the body correct nutrients, eliminating sugar for some, trans fat for others, dairy can be an issue. Advice in this book is not very different from any other ‘alternative medicine’ book. A good diet will help anyone and ADHD patients will benefit from this advice like anyone else. DeMaria has widely criticized pharmaceutical companies, food manufactures and media for distorting our perceptions and falsifying food labels.
